In reply to your letter dated 10-2-20 I have the honour to request that owing to the high cost of living my pay whilst on sick leave be raised from half pay to full pay as I am not able to maintain myself on half pay, which amounts to about eighty-seven pounds.

I beg leave to state that I have to take a special diet which means added expense and under the circumstances it is absolutely impossible to live on half pay.

I apply for re-exams

24/420 Alous pay & bonus per annum.

Leave cannot be granted. May I be investigated for full pay to enable me to obtain light employment whilst undergoing treatment for my disability (duodenal ulcer). The only alternative is to return immediately to the hot tropical summer of Hong-Kong, which in all probability will have a fatal result.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your obedient Servant

William Spillett. L.S.41 Hong-Kong Police.
